Latest on Rosemaling
So, this is a post that is long overdue (pictures included)! I have been focusing a lot of my time on rosemaling and working on new designs. I still do watercolor and sumie, but I've been having more fun with the rosemaling art form. The four pictures in this post are of a variety of colors and designs. Here are some fun facts on Rosemaling (to also help you understand the different designs):
Fact 1: Each region in Norway had different Rosemaling styles. The most famous being Telemark, Hallingdal and Rogaland.
Fact 2: Rosemaling from Telemark is recognized for its central "C" design with "S" shapes/ strokes built from it. Telemark rosemaling is known for its graceful lines and elegant strokes. It is also known for the beautiful, fantasy-like flowers. This form also often uses asymmetrical designs and is painted in transparent colors.
Fact 3: Hallingdal Rosemaling uses more of a bold design. Not as much shading and uses symmetrical designs. Hallingdal rosemaling is also more commonly painted on a warm red/ orange background or a deep blue.
Fact 4: Rogaland Rosemaling is known for its flowers. Such flowers as tulips, daisies and roses. For this rosemaling type, flowers are the center. The background on Rogaland rosemaling is often dark colors with opaque colors on the front.
Hope this helps in understanding a little bit about rosemaling, an art form with a rich history background. Enjoy the pictures!

Running Horses 2
A "better" picture (don't own the best cameras and the picture still isn't flattened all the way) of the "Running Horses" picture. Though I still think that in person it looks WAY better. Just one of those pictures that you have to see in person ;) The picture is 18" by 20"...can't wait until I get it matted.

Watercolor~Horses
My latest endeavor. One of my favorite subjects to draw is horses. I decided to combine my watercolor work with horses. I am doing a simple form of watercolor similar to sumi-e and creating a focus on the horse. I am basically working on portraying the beauty of the horse in a simple background. Hope you enjoy this style!
Camera doesn't take very good pictures so this picture doesn't do this artwork justice. Will have it matted soon.
I have few more watercolor horse pictures I am painting and will post soon. These will all be for sale matted. I will also have prints of these for sale.
E-mail me if you are interested in any of my art pieces: smfarrell17@gmail.com

Chinese Paint Brushing
Some pictures of my other Chinese paint brushing artwork. I especially like to work with nature...as you can see ^_^ Nature is also a big part of Chinese paint brushing as well as Sumi-e. Animals and flowers carry symbols with them that can be expressed through the artwork. Enjoy!
