Latest on Rosemaling

So, this is a post that is long overdue (pictures included)! I have been focusing a lot of my time on rosemaling and working on new designs. I still do watercolor and sumie, but I've been having more fun with the rosemaling art form. The four pictures in this post are of a variety of colors and designs. Here are some fun facts on Rosemaling (to also help you understand the different designs): Fact 1: Each region in Norway had different Rosemaling styles. The most famous being Telemark, Hallingdal and Rogaland. Fact 2: Rosemaling from Telemark is recognized for its central "C" design with "S" shapes/ strokes built from it. Telemark rosemaling is known for its graceful lines and elegant strokes. It is also known for the beautiful, fantasy-like flowers. This form also often uses asymmetrical designs and is painted in transparent colors. Fact 3: Hallingdal Rosemaling uses more of a bold design. Not as much shading and uses symmetrical designs. Hallingdal rosemaling is also more commonly painted on a warm red/ orange background or a deep blue. Fact 4: Rogaland Rosemaling is known for its flowers. Such flowers as tulips, daisies and roses. For this rosemaling type, flowers are the center. The background on Rogaland rosemaling is often dark colors with opaque colors on the front. Hope this helps in understanding a little bit about rosemaling, an art form with a rich history background. Enjoy the pictures!
